Celebrate 30 years of Flickerfest with a special SBS on Demand collection

January 2021 marks 30 years of , Australia’s leading Academy Qualifying Short Film festival. From its humble beginnings, it has grown to become a major competitive Australian & International Short Film Festival with 1000’s of entries coming from filmmakers across the globe.

To celebrate this enduring celebration of short filmmaking from around the world, SBS On Demand has partnered with Flickerfest to present a curated collection of almost 50 shorts from Flickerfest's incredible history.

A virtual 'best of Flickerfest', the collection includes 42 much-loved Australian and International films, as well as seven short films that celebrate LGBTQI+ experiences.
Films include Academy Award nominees Butter Lamp and The Eleven O’Clock starring Josh Lawson, 

Just some of the Australian favourites include: , written and directed by Deborah Mailman; , an art world satire from Warwick Thornton; from Rachel Ward, about relationships within the walls of a maximum detention prison; from David Michod, about a teenager's conflicted recollection about a neighbourhood incident;  Paul McDermott's gothic fairytale,; and Adam Elliot's , part of his breakthrough trilogy of films about his family, complete with cigarette butts, asthma and head lice..

 

 

The 2021 edition of Flickerfest will take place in Sydney's Bondi as a COVID-safe event from January 22 – 31 January 2021.  Full details on the 2021 program at the event
