When New Jersey-based boyfriends Amit Shah and Aditya Madiraju decided to get married in a traditional Hindu ceremony, they had no idea just how great an impact it would have - even becoming in their home country of India.
The couple, who wore matching linen kurtas by popular designer Anita Dongre, chose to exchange vows at the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in New Jersey - timed perfectly to coincide with family visiting from India.
Speaking to about the ceremony, Shah explained: “We wanted a proper Indian wedding. At a time when Aditya’s parents, who are based in India, were visiting us in America for the first time felt like the ideal date."
He added: "It was all completely organic, we didn’t force anything. We are truly lucky to have parents who are so supportive.”
After their wedding photos were shared around the world, the couple took to social media to share their gratitude.
“We didn’t realise the impact a simple wedding at a temple would have on people around the world looking for hope," the loved-up pair wrote in a statement on Instagram.
"There is no secret to acceptance, tolerance, or happiness. You just have to find the right partner to take the step with. Let the truth of your love speak for itself. Love, Amit & Adi.”
