When New York drag queen Nina West put on her reading glasses for Drag Queen Story Time - an increasingly popular public library event in the US - she wasn't expecting to see a miniature version of herself smiling back.

But that's exactly what happened to the Drag Race star recently when she met young Gia, who was in attendance with her supportive mother.

Having sewn her daughter a replica of West's Drag Race entry look, Gia's mum took to social media to share her thoughts on the event - and her daughter's fascination with drag culture.
"Some kids want to dress up like princesses and that is ok," she wrote on Instagram.

"Gia however, enjoys dressing up like villains and drag queens!"

She continued: "I couldn’t think of a better role model for her to have to give her self confidence, teach her to be who she wants and motivate her to reach for the stars, and help her understand that it is ok to be who you are."

She went on to say that she hopes Gia will grow up to "be an advocate for those without a voice".

Finally, she thanked Nina West, who has been a local icon on the drag scene for over 15 years.

"I am happy that you are in our life and an inspiration to everyone that was in this room and beyond," she wrote.

"Although she [Gia] can only watch select clips from @rupaulsdragrace we are all there cheering you on!"
