India’s Director General Military Operations Lt. Gen Ranbir Singh said strikes against “terrorists and those backing them” were based on specific intelligence inputs on Wednesday night and they had caused significant casualties.

Gen Singh also said he had informed his Pakistani counterpart about the strikes the Indian Army carried out.

"Pakistani troops befittingly responded to Indian unprovoked firing on the LoC in Bhimber, Hotspring Kel and Lipa sectors," the statement said.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif strongly condemned the incident, . "Our intent for a peaceful neighbourhood should not be mistaken as our weakness," the PM said.
