Indian Army carries out 'surgical strikes' at LoC in Pak-occupied Kashmir

The Indian Army said it's surgical strikes had caused significant casualties to "the terrorists and those who support them".

Indian Army has claimed it carried out surgical strikes at what it termed “launch pads” for infiltration of “terrorists” into India at the Line of Control in Kashmir.

India’s Director General Military Operations Lt. Gen Ranbir Singh said strikes against “terrorists and those backing them” were based on specific intelligence inputs on Wednesday night and they had caused significant casualties.

Gen Singh also said he had informed his Pakistani counterpart about the strikes the Indian Army carried out.

“I spoke to the Pak DGMO, shared our concerns and told him that we conducted surgical strikes last night.”

Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations said in a statement that at least two Pakistan Army men were killed in the exchanged fire over the Line of Control. The statement said India resorted to “unprovoked firing” in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

"Pakistani troops befittingly responded to Indian unprovoked firing on the LoC in Bhimber, Hotspring Kel and Lipa sectors," the statement said.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif strongly condemned the incident, according to Radio Pakistan. "Our intent for a peaceful neighbourhood should not be mistaken as our weakness," the PM said.
