Inspector Steven Egbers of Maroubra Police has confirmed to SBS Portuguese that a body believed to be of missing 25-year-old Brazilian student Renato Dias Ribeiro da Silva was found in the water at Mistral Point, South Coogee, in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Formal identification of the body has not yet been carried out for the Coroner's Court, which is responsible for opening any formal investigation to find the circumstances and cause of death. The body can only be identified by relatives.
SBS Portuguese understands that there is one female cousin of Renato Dias in Brisbane, apparently the only relative of his currently in Australia.
Australia's Brazilian community is reeling with the news of Renato Dias' body being found in the waters off Coogee Beach, two months after Brazilian-born in Sydney’s Lane Cove River.
Friends of Renato Dias - also known as Renato Silva - have posted social media messages about what a special person he was: "a sensational guy" and "pure happiness" were some of the comments.

NSW Police had informed Renato's flatmates in Sydney that his body was found in the water, according to a Facebook post on Monday morning by Taynara Batista, fiancée of Renato's brother Paulo Henrique.
Renato's brother, Paulo Henrique, had also posted on Facebook a request for help to find his brother, saying that the last information they have about him was that he took a 4 minutes Uber ride around 11 pm on Thursday, 28th June, to South Coogee, when his mobile phone was apparently disconnected: 
Not long after, Renato's brother posted the devastating news: "Guys, thank you for the effort. Renato Silva died, it's not possible to give you more information now. His body was found."
