Film Festival Europa! Europa begins in Melbourne and Sydney on the 15th of February and will last until the 11th of March

This nearly-a-month-long celebration of European cinema is happening for the third time and brings some of the best new European films from 28 countries.

A major highlight is the Greek film director Yorgos Lanthimos Retrospective with six films from the master of the Greek Weird Wave showcasing a surreal, provocative, and entertaining cinematic experience.
Also, festival will screen the Greek film ‘The Summer with Carmen’ directed by Zacharias Mavroeidis with Yorgos Tsiantoulas and Andreas Labropoulos.

The film explores a day-long swim at Athens’ queer beach and two best friends who recall the events of a recent summer.

Additionally, the Europa Europa Film Festival will screen a couple of stunning restorations: the one is the masterpiece ‘The Conformist’ by Italian director Bernando Bertolucci with Jean-Louis Trintignant.
The second classic film is French master Jean Luc Godard’s ‘Contempt’ with Brigitte Bardot.

The artistic director of Europa! Europa Film Festival is Greek Australian Spiro Economopoulos who talked to SBS Greek.
