Summer Cinema: Three classic movies at the Hellenic Museum in Melbourne

Summer Cinema is back and there will three screening in February between the 6th and the 20th of February

The first movie is “Mediterraneo”.

It is an Academy Award-winning anti-war comedy-drama, which follows a group of inept Italian soldiers sent to invade the seemingly deserted Greek island of Kastellorizo during WW2.

It was filmed in 1991 and the Greek island of Kastellórizo, in the Dodecanese island complex.

Greek actress Vana Barba, who is well-known and popular in Greece, made a name for herself internationally when she played in this film as the Greek prostitute “Vassilissa”.

The screening is on Saturday, 6 February, at 6:30 pm.

The second movie is the Greek comedy “Rendezvous on Air” which was initially screened in 1965.

The beautiful “Miss Hellas” falls in love with a young airman in Paris.

A chance encounter between her girlfriends and his brothers-in-arms has everyone swept off their feet, but in order to be together, the airmen devise a clever plan by taking advantage of their squadron leader's admiration for the famous actress Rena Vlahopoulou.

After all, who says no to a rendezvous with love?

This screening is on Saturday, 13 February, at 6:30 pm.

The third and final movie is the 1963 film “Jason and the Argonauts”.

This classic tale of the famous myth follows the story of Jason, the mythical Greek hero, and leader of the Argonauts, as he and his band of fearless adventurers go on the perilous journey to seek out the legendary Golden Fleece in the land of Colchis.

Aided by the goddess Hera, they battle harpies, an animated statue, the Hydra, and a skeleton army, but does Jason's journey end here?

This screening is on Saturday, 20 February, at 6:30 pm.
