How she lost 50 kilos on a keto diet

At 275 lbs, Mae Paner is fearing for her life. She could not sleep and breathe properly due to a very heavy weight. Horrified by her obesity and diabetic condition, she decided to make a change.

After losing a staggering 109 lbs from a , actress and writer Mae Paner also known as Juana Change is now a strong advocate for health and wellness. 'With the ketogenic diet talagang napansin ko. Wow! Eto pala ang ibig sabihin ng nabubuhay ka without excess baggage and living healthy hindi katulad ng dati na grabe yung fear ko kung mabubuhay pa ako kinabukasan o hindi na,' Mae says.

Before she started her health and wellness journey, Mae was at her biggest. She weighed 275 lbs but is now down to 192 lbs within 1 year. She confessed to having a more positive disposition as compared to before. 'Now I'm really happier, even your mood changes. Hindi na ako kasing sungit ng dati mas cool ako kasi nga hindi ka irritable. Well one dahil gumagaan ka gumaganda ang tingin mo sa sarili mo masarap ang pakiramdam mo. Therefore when your body changes, your outlook changes with it,' she says.

The success of her weight loss led her to write a book entitled 'Keto sa puso ko' wherein she shares her experience on the ketogenic diet and secrets to her weight loss. According to Mae, there are 5 C's to a successful weight loss:

Consciousness. If doing the keto diet, you have to be conscious and mindful that you are doing it.

Consistency. Stick to your diet plan.

Commitment. As lovebirds are committed to one another, stay committed to the diet you started.

Critical mindedness. If at some point your diet plan is not working; assess, evaluate and adjust.

Common sense. Do not restrict yourself from eating. Apply prudent judgment.

Mae also cited the importance of having a support group when embarking on a health and fitness journey. 'Ang laki ng tulong ng community ko. Meron akong tinatawag na ketogenicsPH. Ang laki ng tulong! May tanong ka doon ang daming sasagot sayo. Ang dami kong support group.' Mae adds.

It is also best to consult a keto doctor first before going on board as health conditions vary for every individual.

Apart from being political, health has now been a part of her advocacy. Mae shares, 'Sa akin naging exciting ang keto because it transformed my body, it transformed my mindset, it transformed people around me, people I love, people I care for and because of that it has become my cause.'

Mae believes that every individual has the power to change. By sharing her experience on the remarkable effect of her commitment toward a healthy life, she is able to reach out to the community and witness the growth of people becoming healthy. 'I share my whole experience through that lumalaki yung komunidad ng mga tao na nagiging healthy.'
