5 healthy drinks to try this Spring

Spring is a season of bloom for fruits and vegetables and what a perfect time to go to your local market to shop for fresh organic produce. Here are 5 healthy drinks to try at home.

1. Yoghurt Berry Beetroot Smoothie

In a blender or food processor combine 1 cup natural yoghurt, 1 1/2 cups of fresh or frozen mixed berries, 1 small peeled raw beetroot, 1-2 teaspoons dry or soaked chia seeds, 1 1/4 cups of coconut milk or filtered water, 2 mint leaves (optional). Blend well and drink at once.

2. Antioxidant Smoothie

Combine 4 cups spinach leaves, 1 cup frozen blueberries, 3 pitted dates, 1 cup strawberries and half a diced avocado in a blender or food processor and process to a puree. Add 1 cup ice-cold pomegranate juice, 1 teaspoon soaked flax seeds or 2 teaspoons dry or soaked chia seeds and blitz to a thick and creamy smoothie, adding a natural yoghurt and a sprinkle of cinnamon if you like.

3. Carrot, Beetroot and Cucumber Juice

Wash and dry 5 large organic carrots, 1 small unpeeled beetroot, 1 unpeeled organic cucumber. Pass through the juicer with 2 thin slices of fresh ginger and 1/2 cup filtered water, Whisk in 1 teaspoon of flax seed oil, and 1 teaspoon powdered leaf greens or 1/2 teaspoon spirulina supplement. Drink at once.

4. Papaya Smoothie

Peel and dice 1 large slice of papaya and blend up with 1/2 cup of natural yoghurt, 3/4 cup cold almond or oat milk and 1 teaspoon papaya seeds until thick and creamy.

5. Pomme-Pom Juice

Juice 2-3 apples and mix with 1 cup of bottled pomegranate juice. Sweeten to taste with agave syrup and dilute with some filtered water. Drink at once.
