Everyone’s favourite made-up holiday, World Emoji Day (it’s actually !), has come around again this week, bringing with it a slate of brand spanking new Emojis for our word-replacing pleasure. Apple and Android users can expect 59 new Emojis to roll out later this year, along with iOS13.

As usual, there’s much to be excited about in this round of additions to the global pictorial language. Inclusiveness is taken to a whole new level with depictions of people with varying abilities and skin tones, and there’s an even greater chance of locating your spirit animal on the Emoji keyboard thanks to the addition of a sloth, a skunk, a guide dog and a flamingo.

By far the most important category of all – food – has received four new Emojis, and while it would take thousands of food emojis to properly express how we feel about what we eat on a regular basis, we’re certainly not complaining about the updates.
There’s now a plate of falafel (finally!!), which one writer has already to “a pile of dung from a farmyard animal.” Whoops!

The falafel’s green colour suggests it , made with split fava beans, parsley, coriander and dry herbs.

There’s a plate of waffles and a stick of butter, which go together like a match made in breakfast heaven…

And an ice-cube, for all your cooling-down, refreshing, cocktail-making needs.

How garlic hasn’t been emoji-fied until now is beyond us, but now that it has, we’re here for it. The brand-new garlic emoji is plump and perfectly proportioned and has us dreaming of .

Making a shopping list has never been this fun and finally, your inner falafel can come out via text with the touch of a button.

Keep an eye out for the new Emojis released for iOS and Android later this year.
