When society is broken and demands for social justice go unmet, some folks don’t give up. They don’t shut up. They Rise Up. These are the stories and pictures of regular people taking to the streets to change the world. This 6-part VICE documentary series focuses on different times in history when people have demanded change. Episodes cover the British Miners’ Strike, Arab Spring, Berlin Wall, Yellow Vest (France), Women’s March (USA) and Apartheid (South Africa).

VICE World of Sports

There’s more to sports than just the major organisations like the NFL and NBA. VICE World of Sports puts the spotlight on lesser known sports from around the world. Stories that explore broad cultures, politics, places and people through the one thing that connects them all: sports. You will see people using sports as a means of expressing national pride and rivalry, to preserve tradition and history, as a way out of an impoverished childhood, as a tool for prison reform or just for pure entertainment and fun. Host Selema Masekela travelled to Ghana, Serbia and Kenya, among many others, to bring you stories you won’t see anywhere else, told through VICE’s unique point of view.

Woman with Gloria Steinem

Balls Deep

‘There are 7 billion lives happening right now. Including my own. Once I personally experience how the rest of the planet lives on a daily basis, I should finally understand humanity and myself.’ This series sees Thomas Morton, a journalist and contributing editor for VICE magazine, hang out with different groups of people and give their lives a try. Morton joins the Bears, Trump campaigners, Valley goths and even Michelle Obama.

Black Market

Actor Michael K. Williams (The Wire) leaves scripts behind as he takes on what VICELAND calls ‘his most personal project to date’. With Black Market, Williams takes a look at underground economies in America and beyond. He meets people who are willing to break the law and risk everything they have just to get by. While digging into the topics, Williams discusses his own issues with addiction, crime and poverty. The black markets explored in the series include South African fishermen who rely on poaching to survive and an opioid-based cough syrup that is becoming popular in the United States.

Fringe Nation: Extremists in America

As the US becomes increasingly polarised, the limitations of its opposing sides are pushed to their extremes. How will the voices and actions of those at the fringes impact on the country? Reporter Gianna Toboni examines the roots of the self-described ‘militias’ whose heretofore ‘fringe’ beliefs have evolved into having a disproportionate and potentially irreversible impact on the United States.
