Taika Waititi confirms a 'What We Do In The Shadows' sequel is happening

Director Taika Waititi has confirmed that he and Jemaine Clement are planning a sequel to popular Kiwi vampire flick, 'What We Do in the Shadows'.

Taika Waititi, fresh from the overwhelming success of his latest film

, has delighted fans by confirming he and Jemaine Clement are desperate to do a sequel to popular vampire film,

The film, which became an indie box office success after premiering at the Sundance Film Festival in 2014, is a faux-documentary horror-comedy about a group of vampires who sharehouse together in suburban New Zealand.

While on the press circuit for Thor: Ragnarok, Waititi took part in an hour-long interview with

the BUILD series

, where he confirmed the highly-anticipated sequel.

He told the audience that he would reunite with Clement (Flight of the Conchords) to write and direct the film together.

“The rumour is true!” said Waititi. “It’s one for Jemaine. He’s been hounding me to do this [sequel].”

Waititi went on to explain that the sequel will also be a faux-documentary, and the ‘crew’ will this time follow around the pack of werewolves that we meet in the original film, who are led by a profanity-hating werewolf played by Rhys Darby.

“The movie is called ‘We’re Wolves’,” said Waititi – then repeated it, just in case the audience missed the pun.

“It’s a word play. Americans love word plays. You guys love puns. It’s like a wordplay thing,” he joked.

However, the director made sure to let fans know not to expect the film anytime soon: “You aren’t going to see it for seven years,” said Waititi.

“We are notoriously terrible at writing together, Jemaine and I,” he explained. “Usually takes place over emails. So we’ll email each other one line of dialogue once a month. What We Do in the Shadows took six years to write.”
