It has been a big day for The Handmaid's Tale. Not only did we get our first-look at season 2 of The Handmaid's Tale with a new trailer, but the producers and series star Elisabeth Moss spoke with the media to discuss the upcoming season.
Something you're probably eager to do now is add the song in the trailer to your Spotify playlists. To save you Googling, it is a cover of the song For What It's Worth by

At a  overnight, Elisabeth Moss and the shows producers fielded questions from TV industry journalists and critics about the new season where we learned just enough to make us even more excited about the series return.

It is about motherhood

Elisabeth Moss told the critics and reporters in the room that the emphasis this season will be on the birth of Offred's child.

“So much of this season is about motherhood,” Moss said. “We’ve talked a lot about the impending birth of the child that’s growing inside of her as a bit of a ticking time bomb, The complications are really wonderful to explore. She does have the baby, but it gets taken away from her. She can’t be its mother. It makes for good drama.”

Season 2 explores The Colonies

With the first season covering so much material from the novel, the second season will continue to build on the world of The Handmaid's Tale by exploring more - exploring an area outside Gillead known as 'The Colonies'. While the colonies are mentioned in Margaret Atwood's book, the region wasn't really explored.

“It’s a pretty forbidding world,” executive producer Warren Littlefield explained, revealing that Offred will be on the run and find herself at the colonies.

Marissa Tomei guest stars

Fresh off recent appearances on the show Empire and films including Spider-Man: Homecoming and The Big Short, Marissa Tomei will appear in the second episode of the new season. But what she is doing on the show remains as a big secret. The producers are staying very quiet on this.

The Handmaid's Tale invented the #MAGA slogan

While the show get's a lot of praise for its prescience, sometimes the show skirts a little too close to reality for the shows producers to feel comfortable. There have been a number of times that they have had to pull back from the real world - like that time they invented #MAGA.

Series showrunner Bruce Miller revealed that in Season 1: "We said 'Make America Great Again' in a scene long before the primaries even started. So we had to change that line."

Alexis Bledel will be back

Former Gilmore Girl Alexis Bledel gave a powerhouse performance in the first season of the show. She's back for season 2, but Bruce Miller isn't revealing ANYTHING else.
The Handmaid's Tale returns to SBS soon. The first season is still streaming at SBS On Demand:
