Genre: Thriller, Action
Director: Kathryn Bigelow
Starring: Keanu Reeves, Patrick Swayze, Lori Petty, Gary Busey
What’s it about?
Keanu Reeves’ FBI agent Johnny Utah goes undercover to bust a group, who, when they’re not surfing, rob banks wearing masks sporting the faces of former US Presidents. Patrick Swayze is Bodhi, the suave leader of the pack, who Johnny can’t help but admire. In the surfing scenes, the waves are electrifying, including at Victoria’s Bells Beach. Point Break cemented Bigelow as an action film director after her second feature, 1989’s Blue Steel.

Starring: Sara Luna Zorić, Lazar Dragojević, Ernad Prnjavorac
What’s it about?

Her mum arranges Alma’s stay with cousin Emir, who’s friend Denis takes a shine to the new arrival, and Alma doesn’t mind the attention. Dry humour, quirkiness and sun-soaked romance alleviate the sad reason for Alma’s travels. This is Bosnian-Dutch director Ena Sendijarević’s feature debut.

Tangerine

MA15+
USA, 2015
Language: English

Starring: Kitana Kiki Rodriguez, Mya Taylor, Karren Karagulian, Mickey O’Hagan
What’s it about?
Director Sean Baker’s film, infused with orange light, was shot on modified iPhone 5S. Sin-Dee, fresh out of prison, has found out that her boyfriend Chester’s been cheating. Roping in her best friend Alexandra, who dropped the bombshell, the pair go on the warpath to sniff out the culprits. Through the grubby streets and Chester’s usual haunts of West Hollywood, the banter between the friends is hilarious and their encounters along the way, funny and entertaining. Despite Alexandra’s desire to avoid it at all costs, there will be drama. A good and fun romp.

Becoming a symbol of sexual freedom and activism, Obermaier was hungry for new life experiences; she couldn’t have been born at a better time. The film – the soundtrack to which crackles – takes us through her heady life, from living in a commune, joining the Rolling Stones’ 1975 tour as a groupie, and road-tripping in a kitted out bus through Asia with lover Dieter Bockhorn. An entertaining trip through sex, drugs and rock n’ roll.
