Fashion photographer Tyler Mitchell rose to international stardom last year after being to shoot her cover of American Vogue.

It was an historic moment for Mitchell, not least because he became the first African-American photographer to shoot a cover of the iconic magazine.

One year on and Mitchell continues to make his mark - this month revealing a stunning series of photographs, again for Vogue, featuring Ugbad Abdi, an 18-year-old Somali-born model who has already walked for the likes of Fendi, Valentino, Lanvin and Burberry.

"Never did I think or expect to be shooting couture clothing in my life but it’s for that exact reason we wanted to shoot a couture story for the April 2019 issue of American Vogue," Mitchell wrote on social media.
Abdi was similarly moved by the accomplishment.

"I’m in [an] American Vogue Couture Story while wearing my hijab?!" The model, who has succeeded in landing high-profile runway and editorial work while wearing a hijab, wrote on Instagram.

"I’m always in disbelief of everything that I’ve been lucky enough to do in such a short amount of time but this one literally left me speechless. Thank you to everyone who made this possible. Words can’t do justice of how I’m feeling."

She wrote that she hopes to inspire others like her to achieve their dreams.

"This ones [sic] for little me who had a hard time dreaming of what I’m doing now because I couldn’t find anyone I felt represented me. This ones for my little sisters. This ones [sic] for who ever is inspired by me"
The series also features South Sudanese-Australian model Adut Akech and Egyptian-born American model Anok Yai.
