Drag queens in the UK could soon have the chance to lip sync for their lives and become the next drag superstar—according to comments made recently by Michelle Visage.
The RuPaul’s Drag Race judge attended the Drag World UK convention over the weekend and promised fans that the series would be making its way across the Atlantic, .
“We’re getting closer [to a UK version], but here’s the thing with the television situation here; I think commissioners don’t watch the show so all the gay people in the office and queens are like: ‘B*tch, you better watch this’, trying to talk to these people but they don’t understand the heart of the show," Visage said.
“It’s life-altering and if they watched a series they would get it.
“So a UK version is definitely going to happen, but I just don’t know when. I am not giving up hope; I will fight for this b*tch until I die," she added.
Visage assured the Drag World crowd that the first international version of the show wouldn’t be outsourced to another host.
“Myself and Ru will be doing it, there will be no one else,” she said. “It’s RuPaul’s Drag Race, and you speak English so we don’t have to worry about the translation."
Visage appeared at the London event—Europe’s largest celebration of drag— alongside Drag Race favourites such as Jinkx Monsoon, Sharon Needles, Katya and Alaska, as well as a host of local queens.
“There’s far too much drag talent in England, Scotland and Wales… All different parts of the UK, so it can’t not happen,” Visage said of the UK series.
Drag Race has previously hosted a competition to find RuPaul's 'UK Drag Ambassador' in 2015—with 20 finalists competing in London for the title.
