When it comes to fashion (and anything, really), Billy Porter just can't put a foot wrong.

The star of FX series Pose maintained his status as a fashion icon yesterday, hitting the red carpet for the Critics' Choice Awards in a seafoam green Hogan McLaughlin jumpsuit, with dozens of butterflies hand painted on his arms and chest.

Sharing photos of his look on social media, the actor and singer wrote that he was "flying free".

"Billy’s intention [was] to embrace freedom," Anna Bernabe, the artist behind the designs, told .

"Butterflies represent a personal metamorphosis. The multiple butterflies [all over his body symbolise] the numerous transformations and rebirths one goes through during a lifetime."
Porter's transformation from Broadway star to worldwide fashionista and Emmy-winner has been compelling to watch.

The star recently became the first man to appear on the cover of magazine, opening up to the publication about being sent to therapy as a child because his family were “afraid” of him being a “sissy”.

“The heteronormative construct that masculinity is better silenced me for many years," he explained. "It was like my masculinity was in question before I could even comprehend the thought."

“I was sent to a psychologist at five years old because I was a sissy and my family was afraid. I love them. They didn’t know. It was a different time.”

He continued: “That’s one of the first memories I have as a child, that something’s wrong with you and you need to be fixed based on ‘You’re not masculine enough.’ I carried that with me for my whole life until, like, two and a half minutes ago. You know?”

We can't wait to see him pull out all the stops at next month's Academy Awards.
