My Mum has always told me not to worry about growing old because it’s better than the alternative. And it seems that Eva Mendes has a similar attitude towards ageing. The triple threat actress, model and designer recently took to social media to embrace the fact that she’s growing older.

Mendes over the weekend showing off a new hairstyle and sharing details of her “Saturday meeting aesthetic”. But despite the obvious glamour of the look, one user commented, “She’s getting old.”
Not one to allow the negativity of the comment to stand, Mendes replied to the comment pointing out that she was right. “Thank God I’m getting old,” she said. “That means I’m still here. I’m gonna be 46 soon and grateful everyday that I’m aging.”

Mendes went on to question the motives behind the user’s comment asking, “Was your comment suppose to make me feel bad? It didn’t. It makes me feel grateful. So thank you for the reminder that I’m still here.” Mendes followed up her comment with three heart emojis.

Other followers were also quick to jump to Mendes’ defence with , “I think you make aging look beautiful!!”. “If Eva’s old, put me in all the senior communities!”.

Mendes’ comment follows a growing trend of women in the public eye embracing the process of ageing.

Actress Helen Mirren also made headlines when she revealed that she . Echoing Mendes’ gratitude for life, she said, “Take it on the chin and roll with it. Die young or get older.”

Even popstar, In a letter to herself she said, “Dear Me, you’re getting older. I see lines. Especially when you smile. Your nose is getting bigger. You look (and feel) weird as you get used to this new reality. But your nose looks like your kids, and your face wrinkles where you laugh. And yeah you idiot..u smoked.”
She went on to reveal that she had considered “altering” her face but joked that she wanted her children to know what she looks like when she’s angry. She ended her comments about ageing saying, “Get on board cause I am about to AGE THE OL FASHIONED WAY (in a tutu ruling shit at 30mph 100 ft in the air over 40)”

So it looks like the latest celebrity trend is growing old and owning it. And that’s certainly something we should all get on board with.
