Djokovic gunning for grand slam record
Will Novak Djokovic complete a historic calendar grand slam and secure 21 major titles?
With comprehensive victories over Tallon Griekspoor and Kei Nishikori already under his belt, it would be safe to assume the Number 1-seed will carry his great form into the quarter-finals, if he can get past American Jensen Brooksby first in the fourth round.
Djokovic may face too stiff a test once the semi-finals come around though, with both four-seed Alexander Zverev and two-seed Danil Medvedev both looking at their best so far at the tournament.
If Djokovic can overcome one of those two, we may see him make history and continue to defy the odds in world tennis.
Wide-open women's draw
With world no.1 Ash Barty and Naomi Osaka both out of the tournament before the quarter finals, its anyone's guess as to who the favourite is now for the women's singles title.
American Shelly Rogers overcame Barty in a spectacular third-set tiebreaker, while Osaka fell at the hands of Canadian teenage sensation Leylah Fernandez to mark two huge upsets.
Only three of the top five seeded players now remain - with second seed Aryna Sabalenka booking her quarter-final spot in a dominant straight-sets victory over Belgian Elise Mertens, while fourth ranked Karolina Pliskova is yet to play her fourth-round matchup against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.
Pliskova is coming off a straight-sets win over Australian Ajla Tomljanovic in the third round.
Fifth-seed Elina Svitolina cruised to victory against Simona Halep in their fourth round tie to set up a quarter-final showdown with Fernandez which will be the Canadian's biggest test yet.
Generation next
Two 18-year-olds have already taken the tournament by storm and are poised with a great shot at reaching the quarter-finals.
Fernandez has already shocked everyone with the upset over Osaka, and if she can beat another top five opponent in Elina Svitolina, she will have well and truly arrived on the world stage.
Meanwhile in the men's singles, young Spaniard Carlos Fernandez has been in equally impressive form, as he put his name on the map with a win over third seed Stefanos Tsitsipas, before triumphing against German Peter Gojowczyk in the fourth round.
He'll now face off against Canadian Felix Auger Aliassime in a big quarter-final matchup for the teenager.
Fan friendly times
As New South Wales and Melbourne continue to endure lockdowns, fan-friendly match times throughout the finals of the tournament can provide some welcome tennis-themed relief.
Only some of the quarter-finals will start very early from 2am AEST, before the second matches of the day begin from 9am AEST - so you can watch a few points either before, or in between your morning meetings.
Once we move into the semi-finals, fans can enjoy matches starting only as early as 5am AEST, all the way through to the finals.
