The Australian contingent was once again among the thick of the action in the NBA, but it was news of a serious injury to a Boomers star which overshadowed another handful of impressive performances.

Veteran Aussie sharpshooter Joe Ingles has been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering an ACL Tear in the Utah Jazz’s loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Ingles, in the final year of an A$18 million contract, will likely be sidelined for as much as 12 months with a potential return not expected until well into the 2022-23 NBA season.

It will be the longest time out of the game during the 34-year-old’s NBA career so far, which has included a run of 418 consecutive games played between 2015 and 2021.

Oklahoma City’s Aussie rising star Josh Giddey provided brighter news for Australian NBA fans when he set his 11th double-double of the season, breaking the record set by Russell Westbrook for most double-doubles by a rookie for the Thunder.

The 19-year-old’s 14 points, 12 rebounds and four assists also made him the youngest player since Lebron James to reach 500 points, 200 rebounds and 200 assists in his first 45 NBA games.

In other action, A vintage performance from Boomers captain Patty Mills wasn’t enough to lift an understrength Brooklyn Nets to Victory against Golden State Warriors, while Matisse Thybulle made his return to action in a 76ers win against the Pelicans.
