Ewan back on the bike after Tour de France crash

Caleb Ewan is back on his bike just three weeks after a high-speed crash at the Tour de France left him with a displaced complex fracture in his right collarbone.

Ewan sustained the injury during the final sprint in Stage 3, with a tight bunch on the final bend causing the Lotto Soudal rider to slide into Peter Sagan and bring his race to an end.

The 27-year-old had hoped to continue his run of stage victories at each Grand Tour in 2021, but instead, the crash sent him on a plane back to Belgium for surgery.

It is unknown when Ewan will return to road racing, though being back on the bike is a promising sign.

“My bone is still broken but I’ve got a lovely titanium plate holding it together,” Ewan said in an Instagram post.

“And I can ride on the road again! Thanks to everyone who has helped me get back on the bike.

“Not too sure what my next race will be but I’ll keep you updated when I know.”
