Here's the must watch programs on NITV in May

Reflecting May's big moments, NITV has curated a powerful slate of programming, from Reconciliation Week content, to the anniversary of the Mabo Decision and the Torres Strait Islander Flag - it's all on NITV.

Throughout the month of May, on-air and on , NITV has curated a month of iconic and powerful documentaries, films and series to coincide, commemorate and celebrate National Reconciliation Week 2022's Be Brave. Make Change, as well as, the 30th Anniversary of the Torres Strait Islander Flag and the 30th Anniversary of the historic Mabo decision.

This will all debut alongside the series premiere of NITV’s newest sports show, Feeding the Scrum.

Another powerful lineup of programming not to be missed includes our Justice season titled Fight for Justice.

This season includes a powerfully curated collection of documentaries that highlight the history and reality of racially motivated issues in the United States. Within this slate of programming is the NITV Premiere White Noise: Inside the Racist Right

Living Black: Megan Davis – Woman of Influence

Monday 23 May | 8.30pm

To coincide with five years of the Uluru Statement from the Heart, Living Black sit down with Professor Megan Davis who was instrumental in the creation of the Statement in 2017.

Now on the 5th anniversary, Karla Grant speaks to Prof Davis about what led to making this famous declaration.

First Nations Arts Awards

Friday 27 May | 9.15pm

Join hosts Karla Grant and Luke Currie-Richardson for the First Nations Arts Awards.

The awards recognise and celebrate the outstanding creativity and lifetime achievements of First Nations artists and includes the announcement of the prestigious Red Ochre Award.

Wik vs Queensland

Sunday 29 May | 8.30pm

In the lead up to Mabo Day, NITV will broadcast the landmark feature documentary WIK vs Queensland by filmmaker Dean Gibson.

Documenting the 1996 historical decision by the High Court of Australia granting Native Title to the Wik People in the momentous case, Wik Peoples vs The State of Queensland.

The documentary features never before seen archival footage, interviews by family members of Wik claimants as well as interviews with Noel Pearson, Professor Marcia Langton and other significant individuals involved in the case who give recounts of the events that took place during the highly political, highly publicised legal case.

Carry The Flag

Monday 30 May | 9pm

To commemorate the 30th Anniversary of the Torres Strait Islander Flag, NITV will broadcast Carry the Flag.

Stitched into a few pieces of coloured fabric is a rich and powerful story about the man whose design created meaning for a nation of people once invisible to the mainland of Australia.

Celebrate three decades of the Torres Strait Islander Flag as we journey into the Straits with Bala B to uncover and honour the life and times of his late father – Bernard Namok Senior, the flag’s creator.

Land Bilong Islanders

Friday 3 June | 9.20pm

In honour of the 30th Anniversary of historic Mabo Day, NITV will air Land Bilong Islanders - a documentary that shares the story of what has become known as the 'Mabo Case'.

Written and Directed by Trevor Graham, the documentary contains archival footage and rare interviews with the late Eddie Mabo, James Rice, Father Dave Passi and others involved in this historic legal drama. Together they challenged the idea that prior to European settlement, Australia was a land belonging to no one, a 'terra nullius’.
