US pop star Billie Eilish, 18, will be voting in her very first presidential elections in November. And she's taking it seriously -- silence is not an option for Eilish.

At the Democratic National Convention (DNC), she gave a heartfelt speech on the importance of young people turning up to the ballot box come election day. Eilish highlighted issues facing the US: climate change, systemic racism, and the coronavirus pandemic.

"You don't need me to tell you things are a mess — Donald Trump is destroying our country and everything we care about," she said.

"We need leaders who will solve problems like climate change and COVID — not deny them. Leaders who will fight against systemic racism and inequality."

Eilish followed a number of celebrities and politicians including former US President Barack Obama, Hilary Clinton, Elizabeth Warren, Eva Longoria, Kerry Washington, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

Eilish urged young voters to give their support to someone that she says is building a team that shares their values.

"It starts with voting against Donald Trump and for Joe Biden," she said.

"Silence is not an option and we cannot sit this one out. We all have to vote like our lives and the world depend on it — because they do. The only way to be certain of our future is to make it ourselves. Please register; please vote."

The message of support was endorsed by Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden, who shared Eilish's video on Twitter.

After highlighting the need for young voters to think about their futures, Eilish performed a new song ‘My Future’ on stage at the DNC.

When Eilish was announced she released a statement outlining the 2020 presidential elections was the "most important election of our lifetimes".

"It's never been more important to vote," she said.

Eilish is one of the world's most popular artists. She performed at this year's Oscars, as well as winning five Grammys at this year's awards. She has a massive following online with over 30 million subscribers on YouTube and 65 million followers on Instagram.

Eilish also became the first woman to win the top spot in Triple J's Hottest 100.
