Negotiators for Pacific Island nations are urging Australia and other developed nations to increase funding for climate finance.
New frameworks are being set in place for the coming years, including details of a new fund to compensate poorer, more vulnerable nations for the loss and damage that has already occurred due to climate change.
Australia is absent from a list of 18 nations - including the US - that have pledged money for the new fund - a total of AU$990 million.
The topic is on the agenda at the United Nation's annual June climate meeting, which sets the stage for the UN climate talks COP 29 later this year in Azerbaijan in November.
Among the 6,000 delegates is Fijian-born Dr Sindra Sharma - a policy advisor with the Pacific Islands Climate Action Network.
She says the new fund needs to be funded appropriately to help Pacific Islands deal with the accelerated impacts of climate change.
