Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced his engagement to his partner Jodie Haydon on Thursday morning, posting a selfie on social media alongside the caption "She said yes".

He is the first prime minister to get engaged while in office.
A number of notable figures took to the comments section on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram to congratulate the pair, including multiple members of the Australian parliament — such as Penny Wong, Tanya Plibersek, Tim Watts and Sarah Hanson-Young — as well as New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and celebrity chef Nigella Lawson.
Albanese and Haydon first met in March 2020 at a business dinner function in Melbourne, at which Albanese asked if there were any fans of the South Sydney Rabbitohs NRL team in the room and Haydon yelled "Up the Rabbitohs".

The pair later met for a drink at the Young Henry’s brewery in Newtown, in Sydney’s inner west.

Haydon, 45, grew up on the NSW Central Coast and has had a long career in the superannuation industry.

The marriage will be Haydon's first and Albanese's second, after he separated from his first wife Carmel Tebbutt in 2019.
