Queensland Police have called on people to come forward with any information about a violent brawl in Brisbane that left one person dead and another 10 injured.

A man in his 20s died at the scene after police responded to an altercation between two groups at a Zilllmere park at about 5.30pm on Sunday.

Another 10 people were hospitalised with stab wounds and injuries caused by baseball bats, Detective Superintendent Tony Flemming said on Monday.
"It causes me concern there is a risk of retribution within ... a small number of African people, I would say to the friends and associates of those who know, there is no doubt people talk, they will know who is responsible," he said.

"You have an opportunity to talk to your elders, talk to police, and let us know who is responsible for this and stop more people being hurt in the community."

Leaders in Brisbane's African communities have been supporting police with the investigation, he added.

"Those that are involved in this appear to be outliers to the African community and the advice I have is that they are not supported generally by the African community."

Detective Superintendent Flemming said it was understood that one group arrived at O'Callaghan Park and confronted the other with the intention of causing an altercation.

Following the incident, further scuffles broke out between family members and friends of the victims outside Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital where they were being treated on Sunday evening.

"None of that behaviour is helpful to those who've been injured nor to others that are using the hospital," he said.

An investigation centre has been established at Boondall, with homicide and forensic investigators assisting with a "very significant operation". Anyone who witnessed the attack is being encouraged to call Crime Stoppers.

"We are looking at a number of potential persons of interest and locations and we will continue to collect scientific and other evidence that will assist us in identifying who is responsible for this offence," Detective Superintendent Flemming said.
