Enrolment to vote on the Voice to Parliament closes tonight. Here's how you can register

Australians have just hours left to enrol to vote or update their details ahead of the Indigenous Voice to Parliament referendum.

On 14 October, Australians will head to the ballot box to vote on enshrining an Indigenous Voice to Parliament into the constitution.

Citizens aged 18 and older are required to vote, and may be issued with a fine if they fail to do so.

Enrolment closes at 8pm on Monday 18 September.

Monday is also the last day to check or update your details.

There are currently more than 17.5 million Australians on the electoral roll, with at least 97.5 per cent of all eligible Australians enrolled to vote, according to the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC).

How do you enrol to vote in the Voice referendum?

It is compulsory by law for all eligible Australian citizens aged 18 and older to enrol and vote in referendums and federal elections.

If you have not yet enrolled to vote, you can do so via the AEC website.

You will need to provide identification in the form of a driver's licence, Australian passport number, Medicare card number, citizenship number or have someone who is enrolled confirm your identity.

18+ proof of age cards cannot be used to confirm identity.

If you have moved house, or are not sure if your enrolment is up to date, you can also check your enrolment online and provide the AEC with your new contact details.

If you are unable to check your details online, you can contact the AEC via phone on 13 23 26.

How can you vote early on the Voice to Parliament?

If you will be unable to access a physical voting booth on 14 October, you can apply for a postal vote.

Applications for postal votes opened on 11 September and will close at 6pm on 11 October.

If you're living overseas, you can register online as an overseas voter and vote in person at an overseas voting centre from 2 October, or via post.

Early voting will also be available from 2 October in the Northern Territory, Tasmania, Victoria and Western Australia.

Early voting centres will open on 3 October in the Australian Capital Territory, NSW, Queensland and South Australia due to a public holiday.

Early voting centres will remain open for two weeks before voting day.
