The number of places for international students will now be capped, under legislation due to be introduced by the federal government. The education minister will be able to require education providers to limit the maximum number of new international student enrolments each year. If universities want to enrol international students above that limit, they will be required to build new purpose-built student accommodation to benefit both international and domestic students.
