The Australian public is invited to provide their views on the development of a new visa for parents of Australians. This invitation is in response to the government’s election commitment of 21 June 2016 that indicated it would enhance existing visa arrangements to enable sponsored parents to visit their family in Australia for a continuous period of up to five years, if re-elected.
Purpose
The Australian Government believes that parents should have the opportunity to visit children and grandchildren who live in Australia as long as parents and their sponsors can satisfy community expectations and that their stay in Australia does not have an undue cost impact on the Australian community. While several visa options are already available for parents to spend time with their family in Australia, community feedback indicates that a fresh approach should be considered.
Additionally, the introduction of such a visa is a significant shift from current visa options for parents. It raises a number of issues around our communities and the nature of services to support these visitors. The government is seeking community input to help shape the development of the visa.

Assistant Immigration Minister’s comments
Assistant Immigration Minister Alex Hawke announced Friday community consultations will commence for a continuous five-year visa at a time for aged parents of immigrants in Australia.
"Reuniting three generations of families has great societal benefits, and that's why we're announcing a temporary visa of five years," Mr Hawke said.
"Aged parents are also an asset to their families…families are the fundamental building blocks to their society."
Mr Hawke acknowledged the current visa program as inefficient, sometimes resulting in wait times of 30 years.
The current visa system for parents of either Australian citizens or permanent residents into two streams: the 'non-contributor' visa which takes 18-30 years to process and costs $7,000, and the 'contributor' visa which has about a two-year processing time at $50,000.

ඔස්ට්‍රේලියානු පුරවැසි භාවය ලැබූ සහ ස්ථිර පදිංචිය හිමි පුද්ගලයන්ගේ දෙමාපියන් ගෙන්වා ගැනීමට අදාළ new Parents Visa නොහොත් නව දෙමාපිය වීසා සඳහා මහජන අදහස් ලබාගැනීමට ඔස්ට්‍රේලියානු සංක්‍රමණික හා දේශ සීමා ආරක්ෂණ දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව විසින් යෝජනා පත්‍රයක් (Discussion Paper) එළි දක්වා තිබේ.
දෙමාපිය වීසා යටතේ නොකඩවා වසර 5ක් තම පවුලේ උදවිය සමග ඔස්ට්‍රේලියාවේ වාසය කිරීමට මෙම නව වීසා ක්‍රමය සම්මත වූ විට හැකිවනු ඇති බව සඳහන්. පසුගිය මහා මැතිවරණය ඉලක්ක කරගනිමින් රජය 2016 ජුනි 21 වන දින මේ සම්බන්ධව ඡන්ද පොරොන්දුවක්ද ලබා දී තිබුණි.

දෙමාපියන් හට තම දරුවන් සමග එක් වීමට මේ වන විටත් ආකාර කිහිපයක දෙමාපිය වීසා හඳුන්වා දී තිබෙන නමුත් වසර 5ක කාලයක් නොකඩවා ඔස්ට්‍රේලියාව තුළ රැඳී සිටීමේ නව වීසා ක්‍රමයක් පිළිබඳවද රජයේ අවධානය යොමුව ඇත.ඒ සඳහා මහජනතාවගෙන් මෙසේ අදහස් ලබාගැනීමට රජය අපේක්ෂා කරයි.

අදහස් යොමු කිරීමේ අවසන් දිනය
මෙම නව දෙමාපිය වීසා ක්‍රමය පිළිබඳ අදහස් සැපයීමට ඕස්ට්‍රේලියාවේ වෙසෙන සමස්ත ජනයාටම අවස්තාව හිමි වේ.
දෙමාපිය වීසා තවත් වර්ධනය කර ගන්නේ කෙසේද යන්න පිළිබඳ සහ ඒ හා සම්බන්ධ ගැටළු පිළිබඳ මෙම යෝජනා පත්‍රය මගින් මහජනතාවට තම අදහස් යොමු කළ හැකිය.
පිරවූ යෝජනා පත්‍ර යන ඊමේල් ලිපිනයට යොමු කළ හැකි අතර ඔස්ට්‍රේලියානු නැගෙනහිර සම්මත වේලාවෙන් 2016 ඔක්තෝබර් 31 දින මධ්‍යම රාත්‍රිය දක්වා යෝජනා පත්‍ර යොමු කිරීමේ අවස්තාව පවතියි.
එම වේලාවෙන් පසුව යොමු කෙරෙන යෝජනා පත්‍ර නොසළකා හරින බවද ඔස්ට්‍රේලියානු සංක්‍රමණික හා දේශ සීමා ආරක්ෂණ දෙපාර්තමේන්තුවපවසයි.
