Wife arrested for Indian-origin man’s 'poisoning' death in Melbourne

Mr. Abraham's death did not look suspicious to his relatives, however police carried out a covert investigation for months.

33-year-old Sam Abraham was found dead in his Epping home in October last year. At the time of his death, he was thought to have died a natural death. However, detectives have now uncovered an alleged cyanide poisoning plot.

Detectives have arrested Mr. Abraham’s wife and her male friend in connection with the death. reported that detectives believe Sam Abraham had died of cyanide poisoning.

Detectives carried out a sophisticated covert investigation into Mr. Abraham’s death.

Melbourne Magistrate’s Court heard police had intercepted phone calls during their investigation. CCTV footage and DNA will form part of the evidence.

Just three months before his death, Mr. Abraham was attacked in, what police now says, an attempted murder by his wife’s male friend. Mr. Abraham had received injuries to neck, temple and cheek in the attack.
Mr. Abraham and his wife had lived together at the Epping home where he died but she had recently moved to another house in the same suburb.

Police has nearly three months of phone recordings which will be transcribed, the Court heard.

The magistrate granted investigators extra time to transcribe phone conversations and prepare evidence.

The pair were remanded to reappear for a committal mention on February 13 next year.
