Even as the Dubai Police has closed the investigation into the death of veteran Bollywood actress, Sridevi, after a postmortem examination concluded accidental drowning as the cause of her death, it exact events leading to her demise continue to remain shrouded in mystery.

A senior member of parliament in India has now questioned the Mumbai police as to why it refused to conduct a ‘corroborative postmortem’ on the 54-year-old star.

Subramanian Swami, a legislator from India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party called Sridevi’s death a murder last week, claiming the deceased actress could have been force-fed alcohol as she never touched “hard drinks”.
The Bollywood star who has acted in over 300 movies died on 24th February in Dubai where she and her family attended a wedding on the 20th. According to her husband, Boney Kapoor – a Bollywood producer – he returned to India after the wedding and Sridevi stayed back for shopping.

Boney Kapoor was present in Sridevi’s hotel room in Dubai when she died after the 62-year-old producer flew back to Dubai on an unscheduled trip in order to “give her a surprise”.

Mr Kapoor that after he reached the hotel, Sridevi went to the bathroom to take shower as they were to go out for dinner. He said he opened the bathroom door around 8 pm when he failed to get a response from Sridevi after repeatedly calling out her name, and found her motionless in the bathtub.

Mr Kapoor also purportedly claimed that there wasn’t even a drop of water spilt out of the bathtub.

The Dubai Public Prosecution claims to have conducted an “extensive” investigation into her death during which Boney Kapoor was also questioned before the case was closed.
But Mr Swami told Indian news channels on 27th Feb that he suspected the actress had been murdered.

“There’s no doubt that the cinema world has a close relationship, a very unhealthy relationship with Dubai’s gangs and dons. I think, there’s something to do with that,” he said.
