The posters received condemnation from Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau who hailed the Sikh community for their contribution to the country.

Twelve posters were found at the University of Alberta campus on Monday with an image of a turbaned man and the text “ *&^% your turban” on it.

“If you’re so obsessed with your third-world culture, go the ^%&$ back to where you came from!” the posters had the text above the URL of an anti-immigration website, immigrationwatchcanada.org.

The website clarified it had nothing to do with posters on the university campus.

“We strongly condemn this flyer, and permission was not sought from our board for this to be circulated.”

“We strongly believe in dissecting the immigration issue with constructive arguments, supported by irrefutable facts. We do not support flyers taking on a strictly vulgar and emotionally-charged narrative!!” the website said in a bulletin.

The university authorities acted promptly to clear the campus of the anti-Sikh posters as soon as reports about their presence reached them.

Sikh students of the university, former and present, are now planning to organize an event on Tuesday to raise awareness about Sikhs, reported.

The posters received condemnation from Canada’s prime minister Justin Trudeau after Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan, a turbaned Sikh himself, tweeted his response to the posters.
“Proud to be Canadian, proud of my service to Canada, proud of my turban,” Mr. Sajjan wrote on twitter.

Prime Minister Trudeau, said he was proud of the contribution of the Sikhs to the country.

The university authorities are investigating the posters.
