Anurag Kashyap's film depicts the problem of drug abuse in the northern state of Punjab that has been crippling the state for decades. The makers of the film have been given a long list from the censor board of things that need to be cut from the film – 89 cuts to be precise. The board has also demanded that the producer should erase any reference to politics or politicians and elections in the state and all references to substance abuse should be deleted as well. But the producer of the film is refusing to do any cuts. Co producer Anurag Kayshyap is furious over the demands of the board and says there is no more honest film than “Udta Punjab”. It’s not only the makers of the film that are upset, but the public is also furious over the board’s demands.
The whole fiasco with the sensor board means that the release date of the movie might be postponed.

The producers of the film are planning to move to Bombay High Court against the panel’s verdict. It was after Shiromani Akali Dal raised an objection to the film and its depiction of Punjab’s drug issues, the film censorship now looks more like a political agenda.

This however, has prompted an amusing meme of the film poster to depict how the film would look like after the cuts.
