A driver has lost his licence after being caught using his phone in Sydney’s west on Sunday night.
A 33-year-old driver from Liverpool, Sydney was pulled over by the Fairfield Highway Patrol for driving at 96 km per hour in a signposted 70 km zone on the Cumberland Highway, Smithfield around 10 pm on June 9th.
The officers found the driver had attached mobile phone to the steering wheel so he could see live score updates of the cricket world cup match between India and Australia as well as use it for navigation.

“There is a mobile phone on your steering wheel. So you can’t have that,” the officer is heard saying in the video.
“Ok, okay,” the driver says before the officer interrupts and tells him, “That’s so dangerous. I have never seen that before in my life. What is holding that on?”
“It is just… It is actually a mobile holder,” the driver says after switching on the light and showing the holder to the officer.
“Are you driving like that?” the officer asks.
The man is heard replying with a feeble ‘yeah’.
The officers also found a two-year-old child seated in the child seat in the rear that was not restrained as prescribed.
The driver was slapped with three infringement notices, totalling 24 demerit points due to double demerits being in force during the Queen's birthday long weekend.
He copped 8 points for exceeding the speed limit over 20km/h, 10 points for using a mobile phone and 6 points for the unrestrained child.
