Two Indian sisters killed in car accident in Queensland

The women, 23 and 18, died at the scene when their car and a truck collided at Peaks Crossing.

Two Indian sisters, Anjumol and Asha Mathew, lost their lives in a tragic car accident on 23 May 2016.

The women, 23 and 18, died at the scene when their car and a truck collided at Peaks Crossing.

The sisters were travelling back from dropping off their sister in Beaudesert when the crash happened.

The two-vehicle crash happened at Peak Crossing yesterday about 10.10am at the corner of Ipswich Boonah Road and Mount Flinders Road.

QAS West Moreton Critical Care Paramedic, Carmen Waqanaceva, confirmed that police arrived to find two female victims trapped in the car.

“Unfortunately, on their assessment, they found two female patients entrapped in the vehicle, both with no signs of life.”

Anjumol studied at the University of Southern Queensland and was a nurse at Lourdes home.

Asha had arrived in Australia just three months agao to follow in her sister’s footsteps and was studying nursing at the University of Southern Queensland.

Family friend's Ranjeet Vadassery told The Queensland Times - "They were wonderful young people, and I think it's a very big loss for all of us personally."

"I was shocked, that was my first reaction. There were a lot of tears, and people rallying together in their grief," he added.

The close knit Kerala community in the Holy Name Parish of Toowoomba is devastated by the news.

The sisters' siblings Elizabeth and Anumol are now in Brisbane working with the Indian embassy to bring the women back to India to be buried.

Their sisters’ parents still live in India.

The family friend’s said that the local police and community had shown immense support to the family at this time of grief.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the incident.
