In Melbourne, Meena Kumari, the late actress famously known as Bollywood's Tragedy Queen, appears in an exhibition titled 'Goddess: Power, Glamour, Rebellion'. The exhibition, celebrating 120 years of moving images, was opened at the Australian Center for Moving Images (ACMI) recently. It honours artists who challenged narratives both on and off screen. In an interview with SBS Hindi, ACMI's head of Visitor Experience Britt Romstad explained how Meena Kumari and her iconic film 'Pakeezah' has become the part of the exhibition. Curated by Bethan Johnson, exhibition is open until 1 Oct 2023.
