28-year-old Melbourne resident Ramya Krishna committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling at her residence last week.

On Friday, her husband, Mahant flew to Hyderabad, left the body at the airport and flew back to Australia.

Mahant accompanied by his parents reached Hyderabad by a Singapore Airlines flight at 10pm. Ramya’s brother Krishna also arrived by the same flight. While Krishna and Mahant’s parents came out of the airport, Mahant allegedly collected Ramya’s passport and took a return flight to Melbourne.
Family members of Ramya have revealed that the couple had a spat the day Ramya allegedly committed suicide. They have also alleged that Ramya might have suppressed the mental and physical harassment meted out to her by Mahant in Australia.

"Mahant and his family members have been demanding additional dowry for the last several months. At the time of marriage, we gave property worth over one crore rupees along with a kg of gold to Mahant. Sometime back, Mahant had asked for money to set up Domino's Pizza outlets. For that, my father supported him and later gave him liquid cash of Rs 40 lakh. As she did not conceive, Ramya's mother in-law too had been harassing my sister,'' Ramya’s brother Krishna told .

The family also alleged that Mahant took Ramya’s passport to claim her superannuation and other financial benefits.

However, Mahant's family members denied the allegations. They claimed that Mahant skipped the funeral due to threat to his life from the girl's family.

"The allegations of collecting Ramya's passport for attaining financial benefit is baseless since nowhere in the world insurance is given in a suicide case,'' Mahant’s father Subramaniam told TOI.

Ramya’s brother, Krishna has written to police authorities in Melbourne to further probe Ramya’s death. The deceased’s family members also plan to lodge a complaint in India.
