A neighbour in India tried to stop a young student from boarding his flight to Australia, by calling airport authorities that the young student on his way to higher studies in Australia was carrying explosives.
The Times of India reported that a Jaipur-based woman who was allegedly upset about her daughter’s rejection by an Australian University, tried to stop her neighbour, whose application was successful.
Balraj Singh was flying to Australia from Delhi on Friday morning, when airport authorities were alerted by the Airlines about the ‘phone call’ they had received.
This woman had called up the airlines around 9am and accused Singh of carrying explosives, triggering an emergency response at Delhi airport, the report stated.
A Bomb Threat Assessment Committee meeting was held and the force was rushed into action, officials said. "List of fliers of AI 308, scheduled for Melbourne, was checked with the details provided by the woman and Singh was identified. He was intercepted outside the departure hall," said Dinesh Gupta, DCP IGI.
Police checked Singh’s luggage but did not find anything suspicious. They cleared him and concluded that the call was a hoax.
"When the parents of the man, who were at the airport, were shown the number from which the call was made, they identified the number as their neighbour's, " the officer said.
Delhi Police have now approached the woman who made the call and have called her for questioning. A case has also been registered under Indian Penal Code, police said.
