Indian couple critically injured in a horrific car crash in Melbourne

The couple was crossing the road in Hawthorn when they were hit by a car.

An Indian couple was rushed to hospital with critical injuries after being hit by a car in Melbourne on Tuesday evening.

The investigators believe the couple Girish and Devika, both in their 40s, were walking on Hawthorn Road when they attempted to cross the North Road just before 7pm.

At that point, the police believe they were struck by a car who took a right turn colliding with both pedestrians.

Girish reportedly has suffered serious head and chest injuries in the crash.

Paramedics took the couple to The Alfred hospital in a critical condition.

According to their friends, the couple arrived in Australia about three weeks ago from India through their employer, Accenture.

Family members from India are expected to arrive soon in Melbourne.

The driver of the car involved in the carash, a 60-year-old man, was not injured and was interviewed by the police.
