30-year-old Shubha Anand, who pleaded guilty in a drunk-driving crash that killed a 19-year-old nursing student in Melbourne, was sentenced to seven years in jail with a non-parole period of four years on Friday, reports.

Subha Anand had more than triple the legal blood-alcohol limit when her car crashed into the back of Natasha Pigot's car in January 2016, killing the 19-year-old.

Anand had been drinking at home on the night of the crash and had stormed out after an argument with her boyfriend related to his ex-wife.

She was speeding at an estimated 115 km/h in a 70 km/h zone before she hit Ms Pigot's car.

Victorian County Court Judge John Smallwood described Anand's behaviour as a "very serious" example of culpable driving.

"You made a decision to drive highly intoxicated at a quite frankly extraordinary speed," he said.

Anand has applied to have her nine-month-old child with her in prison which is being considered by corrections authorities.

Judge Smallwood said the potential separation from her young child in prison will be difficult for Anand, who is remorseful and unlikely to reoffend.

"But these matters have to be balanced against the dreadful crime you committed and the dreadful consequences it had on so many people," he said.

Anand who holds permanent residency in Australia may be deported after serving her sentence,  reports.

Anand pleaded guilty to culpable driving in June, more than 18 months after Ms Pigot was killed, with her pregnancy delaying court proceedings.

The victim's mother, Aleacha McMaster, said the sentence was fair.

"I feel that justice has been served – she's owned up to what she's done," she said outside court.
