Federal Labor leader Anthony Albanese has described Mr McGowan's landslide victory in Western Australia election as "quite extraordinary", with results showing he will lead the most dominant government in the state's history.
Labor consigned the Liberals to a generational defeat in Saturday's election, with the party expected to claim up to 53 out of 59 lower house seats on the back of a stunning 13 per cent swing.
It is a nightmare scenario for the Liberals, who are set to be reduced to just two or three seats and lose their opposition status to the Nationals.
Among the losers are Greek-Australian Liberal MP, Peter Katsabanis who lost his seat and said he will retire from politics.
