The trailblazer of Australia’s migrant movement, passed on 25 March.
But an event had already been planned to take place on 25 April to mark his 90th birthday this year with a special tribute.
Open to the broader community, the gathering aims to celebrate Zangalis’ life of activism.
“George was one of the major proponents and advocates of multiculturalism in Australia , as well as a fierce campaigner for social justice and workers rights,” reads an excerpt of the GOCMV’s announcement.
Since migrating Down Under in 1951, George Zangalis became immediately involved in the working class and wider Australian labour movement and has been a trailblazer and prominent advocate of multiculturalism.

The event honouring his life and contribution will take place on Sunday, 25 April at 2.30 pm at the Andrianakos Centre, Alphington Grammar.
