Four-month-old baby dies after near drowning in bathtub

Investigations are continuing into the circumstances of the death of a baby boy in Sydney’s south-west.

The tragic incident took place in an Oran Park home on Thursday.

Emergency services were called to the residence just before 5pm finding the four-month-old baby unconscious.

According to media reports, the infant was pulled unconscious from the bathtub with his mother found lying beside on the floor.

Paramedics commenced CPR at the scene upon arrival, but the baby boy was unable to be revived.

The 32-year-old mother of two was arrested and taken to Narellan police station before being transferred to Liverpool hospital for a mental health assessment.

The ABC reports the mother is believed to be suffering from postnatal depression.

The Oran Park residence remains a crime scene, with detectives continuing investigations.
