$100,000 boost pledged for Lonsdale St Greek precinct

The incumbent Lord Mayor Sally Capp has committed to a funding program benefitting nince Melbourne City Precincts if re-elected in the upcoming council elections.

The historic Lonsdale Street Greek Precinct is amongst the areas targeted with the funding boost.

Funding promises to boost marketing programs for the precincts to attract consumer traffic in areas that have been affected by the coronavirus restrictions.

“I want to ensure these precincts can revitalise as we prepare to reopen,” Ms Capp said.
“Our distinct and diverse precincts really make our city.

“We can tuck into pasta on Lygon Street or yum cha in China Town, grab a coffee and enjoy the art in the CBD laneways, enjoy spanakopita in Lonsdale Street, dine waterfront at Docklands or riverfront at Southbank, stroll the funky shops of Kensington or check out the latest offerings around North Melbourne."

Funds would be distributed across the nine precincts in $50,000 packages over the course of two years.

“We want more people to support local businesses which support local jobs and local providers of goods and services."

Leading Councillor of Ms Capp’s team ticket, Kevin Louey, has also stated as his priority supporting businesses hit by the pandemic will be his priority if elected.

The President of the Greek Community of Melbourne, Bill Papastergiadis thanked the incumbent Lord Mayor for her pledge, on behalf of the Lonsdale St Precinct members.
