As part of a FACCI (French & Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry) event, we met Laura Caspari from Engie to discuss (in English) the future of renewable energy in Australia. From community involvement to the economic benefits of wind and solar power, this episode has valuable insights into how Australia is leading the global energy transition.

We talk to Laura Caspari from Engie to discuss the future of renewable energy in Australia. Laura’s passion for sustainable energy solutions is clear as she talks about the importance of community involvement, innovative solutions, and the economic benefits of transitioning to renewable sources. She highlights the Gurambat East Solar Farm, a 250-megawatt project in Victoria, which will power about 100,000 homes at its peak.

Laura explains how wind and solar energy can work together to provide a stable energy supply. In New South Wales, solar production peaks during the day, while wind energy is more abundant in the morning, evening, and night. This complementary profile and battery storage can offer a robust solution for sustainable energy generation. She also emphasizes the economic benefits, noting that wind and solar are now the cheapest forms of electricity, making the transition both environmentally friendly and economically viable.

Laura’s journey adds a unique perspective. Having spent time in the US, she notes that while there are differences between the two markets, Australia has advantages like abundant wind and solar resources. She proudly mentions that Australia is leading the world in the energy transition, with South Australia achieving 100% renewable energy generation at times.
