Bacon and cheese popcorn

This recipe takes popcorn to a whole new level, spiking the butter with cayenne pepper and garlic powder, and stirring through cheese and bacon for an indulgent snack.

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • ½ cup popcorn kernels
  • ¼ tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/8 tsp garlic powder
  • ¼ –½ tsp salt
  • ¼ cup butter
  • 85 g sharp cheddar, finely shredded
  • fried crispy bacon

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a large saucepan until hot. Add popcorn kernels, cover with a lid and shake to stir. Once the kernels pop, remove pan from heat.
  2. Add cayenne pepper, garlic powder, salt, butter and cheese to popcorn and stir through until butter and cheese melts and coats popcorn.
  3. Break up crispy bacon pieces and stir through before serving.

Oven temperatures are for conventional; if using fan-forced (convection), reduce the temperature by 20˚C. | We use Australian tablespoons and cups: 1 teaspoon equals 5 ml; 1 tablespoon equals 20 ml; 1 cup equals 250 ml. | All herbs are fresh (unless specified) and cups are lightly packed. | All vegetables are medium size and peeled, unless specified. | All eggs are 55-60 g, unless specified.
