Taste Le Tour with Gabriel Gaté

French chef, Gabriel Gaté, is back to present his delicious serve of Taste le Tour, a gastronomic journey that follows the route of the 21 stages of the epic Tour de France cycling event. In each episode Gabriel discovers beauty and the specialties of the region leaving you wanting more.

Back for the thirteenth consecutive year to present his delicious serve of Taste Le Tour, Gabriel discovers the best gourmet specialities of each region of the twenty-one stages of this amazing race. He visits century-old markets and restaurants and features cheeses and wines that have been made in the same manner for three to four hundred years.

Episode 1 - Düsseldorf, Germany

French chef, Gabriel Gaté, welcomes viewers to Taste Le Tour 2017 from the attractive German city of Düsseldorf in the Rhine river valley. He enjoys tasting the beer at a local brewery and discovers some superb German delicacies at a central market. 

Episode 2 - Düsseldorf / Liège

Gabriel Gaté visits the picturesque German village of Monschau in the North Rhine-Westphalia region. He tours a mustard factory and visits a rural restaurant to taste classic German dishes.

Episode 3 - Verviers / Longwy

Gabriel Gaté, continues his gourmet adventures in Luxembourg where he visits a vineyard in the Mosel Valley.  He discovers the beauty of the Duchy's capital and searches for the finest local foods.

Tonight Gabriel tours a covered market in the stunning city of Nancy in the Lorraine region. He visits the Excelsior restaurant, one of the most beautiful brasseries in France where he tastes the specialities of the century-old institution.

Episode 5 - Vittel / La Planche des Belles Filles

Gabriel Gaté visits an attractive French market in the classic spa city of Vittel, famous for its mineral water.  He discovers a great artisan baker who prepares traditional regional specialities.

Episode 6 - Vésoul / Troyes

Aired at 9pm on Thursday 6 July, 2017 on SBS

Gabriel Gaté is in Troyes, a medieval town in the south of the Champagne region, to discover how the popular tripe sausage specialties are made and prepared. In the centre of the charming town the gourmet chef can't resist a visit to one of the best chocolatiers in France.

Episode 7 - Troyes / Nuits-Saint-Georges

Gabriel Gaté is thrilled to be in the village of Nuits-Saint-Georges in the heart of Burgundy to taste some outstanding pinot noir. He visits the region's beautiful capital city of Dijon to discover the outstanding market and tastes one of the world's most famous mustards.

Gabriel is in the picturesque Jura region on the border of Switzerland. He meets three outstanding local artisans, a chef, a sommelier and a cheese master who introduce him to some amazing food and wine.

French gourmet chef, Gabriel Gaté, visits an historical alpine cellar where the unique Grande Chartreuse liqueur has been concocted by Carthusian monks for hundreds of years. He discovers more alpine specialities in the excellent market of the city of Chambéry.

Episode 10 - Périgueux / Bergerac

Aired at 10pm on Tuesday 11 July, 2017 on SBS

Gabriel Gaté visits the Dordogne region, famous for the charming beauty of its Dordogne river and valley. He meets a local farmer who cultivates corn and breeds ducks for their popular meat and rich liver, called foie gras.

Episode 11 - Eymet / Pau

Gabriel Gaté is in the Landes region between Bordeaux and the Pyrenees and is thrilled to discover a country restaurant housed in a lovely château. The menu features a rustic platter of the best regional foods served with a glass of the local wine.

Episode 12 - Pau /Peyragudes

Aired at 9pm on Thursday 13 July, 2017 on SBS

Gabriel Gaté is in a village nestled high in the Pyrenees close to the Spanish border. He strolls through the weekly market to discover the finest regional specialities. At a nearby farm he tastes the famous local ham made from black pigs.

Tonight crowds flock to the weekly market which takes place in the medieval square of the town of Mirepoix in the Occitanie region of France. Gabriel mingles with some very dedicated food producers.

Episode 14 - Blagnac / Rodez

Aired at 8.30pm on Saturday 15 July, 2017 on SBS

Gabriel Gaté discovers the stunning hilltop village of Castelnau de Montmiral in the native region of French painter, Toulouse Lautrec. He stays overnight in an historic château that produces fine, organic, full-bodied wines. Gabriel also discovers the great food of the region.

Episode 15 - Laissac-Sévérac-l'Eglise / Le Puy en Velay

Aired at 8.30pm on Sunday 16 July, 2017 on SBS

French chef, Gabriel Gaté, spends the day in Le Puy en Velay, one of the most scenic towns of France in the Auvergne region. The hilly town is famous as one of the starting points for the Camino pilgrimage.  Gabriel is here to taste the famous dishes of the region, including the much- loved local lentils.

Episode 16 - Le Puy en Velay / Romans-sur-Isère

Gabriel Gaté loves making desserts. He visits Valrhona, one of the most outstanding French chocolate makers, in the town of Tain L'Hermitage, one of the most picturesque towns along the Rhône valley. The place is a destination for gourmets from all over the world who come to the chocolate city for a guaranteed taste bud sensation.

Episode 17 - La Mure / Serre-Chevalier

Gabriel Gaté has a weakness for alpine cheeses and visits a farmhouse cheese-maker high in the mountains. He enjoys a bike ride in the Alps to reach a friend's chalet and is rewarded with a magnificent regional cheese platter and a glass of local wine.

Episode 18 - Briançon / Izoard

Gabriel Gaté has reached Briançon, one of the highest European alpine towns, where a chef introduces him to the local fare. Gabriel visits the weekly market and discovers the rustic regional specialities.

Gabriel Gaté is in Aix en Provence, one of his favourite French towns in the heart of Provence which has a colourful daily market. He visits a nearby farm that produces both fine olive oil and superb wine.

Gabriel Gaté, has reached the grand Mediterranean port city of Marseilles where a local chef shares with him the secrets of the bouillabaisse, the famous French fish soup. Gabriel enjoys discovering the great local lifestyle.

Episode 21 - Montgeron / Paris Champs-Elysées

In the final episode of Taste Le Tour 2017 Gabriel Gaté arrives in Paris, a city close to his heart as he worked there as a young chef alongside the one of his favourite chefs of all time. He catches up with Guy Savoy, a great contemporary French chef who runs one of the finest Parisian restaurants.
