Food is a unifier. It is sustenance, but it also connects people, cultures and regions from across the world and within our own homes. SBS Food has partnered with Diversity in Food Media Australia and we are looking to celebrate brand-new content creators in food.

Whether you have a first-person memoir, an audio excerpt or perhaps something more visual, we want to encourage you to be brave and bold, and share your ideas by entering our SBS Diversity in Food Media Competition.

This competition aims to uncover new and inspiring voices and content creators who have their own food stories to tell and that reflect and celebrate diverse Australia.

Open for entries from 21 February until 21 March 2022.

The competition theme is ‘Journey through food’, which allows plenty of scope to write a non-fiction memoir piece, tell an original audio story or provide a piece of visual artwork on the theme.

The competition is only open to Australian citizens or permanent residents, currently living in Australia; aged 18 and over, and who are not published authors of a book (written) or regular food media contributors, employed as a radio presenter or prominent podcaster (audio) or previously managed by an agency or gallery (visual).

Using this year's theme, there are three categories to select from, each with its own criteria for submission. You can only submit one entry per person, so choose your category wisely.
