Meet the big, bright doughnut that's doing the rounds

Thought that there couldn’t possibly be any more crazy doughnut trends this year? Nope. And this one's right on target. (See what we did there?)

We’ve seen galaxy doughnuts, , , doughnut burgers and doughnut ice cream cones; it’s been a big year for the pastry with a hole in the middle.

Unicorns got a particularly cute look-in on the "hole" thing:
It seemed like perhaps the doughnut trend had been exhausted for 2016; but of course, there’s always room for one more weird pastry creation.

Meet the doughnuts making ripples in New York, and created by Chelsea-based doughnut institution Doughnut Plant, which announced its new masterpiece with

Yep, the new doughnut craze is, well, ripple doughnuts.
As , the pastry concoctions is comprised of three sweet or savoury layers of doughnut, weaved together into a huge ripple shape.  

First off the rank is a Thankgsiving themed doughnut with sweet potato, cranberry and ginger flavours; the menu will also feature berry parfait and moccachino creations.
As far as we can tell, these ripple doughnuts are the first of their kind anywhere in the world, and will be sold for a massive US$24 each.

The man behind them, Mark Israel, has been servicing New York city with doughnuts for over 22 years.
We haven’t heard any whispers of these woven pastry creations hitting Australian shores yet, but we wouldn't be suprised "holiest" doughnut designers give the trend a whirl.
