A new twilight market is serving restaurant fare under the stars

EatSummer will feature food from some of Sydney's best: dumplings by Lotus and slices from Lucio Pizzeria.

Imagine a twilight markets where you could enjoy restaurant-quality fare under the shade of a big fig tree with DJs spinning tunes in the background. That’s exactly what's on offer at Sanderson’s Mercedes-Benz EatSummer series.

More than 20 of the city’s best chefs, four themed bars and a “dessert alley” will feature at the new markets, which are moving into Sydney’s Entertainment Quarter’s under-utilised Heritage Park space.

There's no shortage of food markets in Sydney (Paddy's launched theirs earlier this year) but ones offering after-dark meal options are usually relegated to fleeting food festivals, night noodle market-style.

Launching on November 1, EatSummer has already locked in Agape, Anason, 1821, Lotus, Tequila Mockingbird, Lucio Pizzeria, Spice I Am, Marta Osteria, Indu, Barzaari, Nola Smokehouse, Sake Jr, Fratelli Fresh, Ume Burger,Hooked on Poke, Mr Bao and Banh Xeo Bar.

Chefs headlining the event, which is being hosted by Feeder Events (a spin-off of the Cambridge Markets, who are behind the weekly Rose Bay Farmers’ Market) include Anason’s Somer Sivrioglu, Lotus’s Chris Yan, Spice I Am’s Sujet Saenkham, Barzaari’s Darryl Martin, 1821’s David Tsirekas and Lucio Pizzeria’s Lucio De Falco.

“Great food markets like this are booming,” said Lucio de Falco from Lucio Pizzeria at Darlinghurst and Zetland. “We are finding that customers want to try food festivals and markets more often because they like the variety and the atmosphere that comes with going to events like these.”

A specially curated cocktail bar will be hosted by local craft gin distillers Archie Rose to complement the menu. Dessert chefs will be announced in the coming weeks.

EatSummer are hoping their November 18 event will kick off a twilight markets series that runs until April at the Entertainment Quarter. More dates to come.
